Thanks, Martha! This is the one point I need to make again and again to clients...great as their products/services/companies may be, they're nothing if clients don't see the benefit to them.

I'll definitely echo Martha's comments!

An elevator speech is an absolute staple in every marketer's cupboard. I like how you compared the "right" and "wrong" ways of sharing your expertise and how to add a little spice and adventure!

You might really enjoy connecting with a very special friend of mine, Felicia Slattery. She's a Signature Speech Secrets expert. Her Twitter ID is @FeliciaSlattery I have a feeling you two will hit it off.

It's always about THEM! Once people learn to take themselves out of the equation and let prospects know what's in it for THEM, their business will soar! Thanks for the insight :)

Thank you for the kind words, Melanie!! And yes - that personal contact is truly what can make the difference in building a business, becoming a flesh-and-blood person in your prospects' minds instead of an anonymous commercial presence. Bravo to you for the work you're doing with parents-to-be at such an important point in their lives.

Outstanding, Phila!!

I'm a huge advocate of using your "voice" to get your message out to your target market. I love public speaking!

I've been standing in front of audiences for many, many years as a perinatal educator. Yes, I'm teaching a class. But what I'm really doing is offering "solutions" to people's problems - answering their most burning questions, alleviating their fears, offering a listening ear, and delivering information that's highly valuable to them.

Thank you so much for covering this arena today. Speaking is an excellent platform to build your brand and grow your business!

Great points, Phila!

I was commenting on this very topic today at another person's blog. "Static" web sites just don't work. "Brochure" sites, as you so aptly call them, won't get much attention from the search engines, for starters, since they don't have continual fresh content being added.

It's kind of scary to think that a potential customer, client, or subscriber will only spend a few short seconds on your page before they either read on or ... run away!

Thanks, Melanie!
One thing I've learned is that you can gain early traffic by setting up your blog *first* to attract the traffic to itself (again, Google loves the fresh content). Then launch your site once you have the content complete. If you're working on a low budget, Wordpress is a great way to do this in an integrated fashion.

Thanks so much, Phila - EXCELLENT post!

You've helped me to weed out the good tatics from the not-so-good when it comes to site ranking, traffic, and credibility.

And I'll agree with you that if oftentimes takes weeks or MONTHS to get your site indexed by search engines. So we all need to just keep planting more credibility seeds by adding a constant flow of fresh content!

And don't forget to water and feed. :-)

First off, let me say that I really like the look and feel of your blog - just clicked the "follow" button to follow your networked blog on Facebook.

Organic SEO on the outset sounds so complicated but you've demonstrated here that it really doesn't have to be difficult or confusing. Thanks for the sensible, easy-to-follow explanation. Much appreciated!
